Chiner Chic en Provence

Provence is a land of China... with its capital, L'Isle sur la Sorgue, very close to Bastide de Marie and its villages which, during the weekend, welcome in their squares, under hundred-year-old plane trees, flea markets and other curiosities.

In Provence

To decorate our hotels," explains Jocelyne Sibuet, "I always start with antique pieces that I mix with more contemporary pieces, without losing sight of the codes of the region where we are. Because decorating a place means telling a story, and where better to find the elements of the story than in the objects found in the region!"

"L'Isle sur la Sorgue is a paradise for bargain hunters, large lofts, disused industrial buildings with huge surfaces are the stronghold of antique dealers, while second-hand goods dealers set up in inner courtyards more or less in the open air. Every weekend, in Provence, village flea markets take place. Not to be confused with the "vide-greniers", the equivalent of the American "dirty garages" but on the scale of a whole village. Everyone displays their treasures in front of their door. Picturesque, but very good deals are rare (except if you come at 7am!). The flea markets are often of quality, the professional brocanteurs make it a point of honour to present the heritage of Provence, old boutis, potteries, varnished earthenware basins and jugs, curious pieces of crockery such as the dish with a hole to let fresh goat's cheese drip, crockery from Vallauris in the 50s, convent linen in linen or hemp, marked with initials embroidered with red thread... An inventory à la Prévert which has all its charm and which you will be pleased to complete during your stay at the Bastide de Marie."
